Meet Kay Crowder

your council District D Representative

Background and Qualifications

I was born in District D, and I have lived in Raleigh’s District D all my life. I especially enjoy the friendly and diverse neighborhood in which I have lived for more than 30 years.

With experience in sales, marketing, management, and finance, I am known for my honesty, business savvy, and problem solving skills. I work to find areas on which I agree with my community and my fellow councilors and build bridges to create positive solutions that benefit the citizens of Raleigh.

I have a particular interest in promoting more residential development that includes a mix of market-rate, workforce, and affordable housing. As your Raleigh City Councilor since 2014, I chair the City Council’s Growth and Natural Resources Committee. I am also a member of the Council’s Transportation Committee and I am the Council’s appointee to the N.C. League of Municipalities where I co-chair the legislative Agenda Committee.

And I particularly proud to represent the City Council on the Dix Park Master Plan Executive Committee.

In addition to my many career and City Council accomplishments, I have always been active in the community. I participated in the first Raleigh Neighborhood College and previously served as a corporate mentor for Junior Achievement, president of the Avent West Neighborhood Association, and president of the A.B. Combs Elementary School PTA. I have volunteered with Special Olympics for 20 years.

“I am working with my community through the Avent Ferry Road Corridor Study to develop a vision for the future character of the road and adjacent land uses. As a member of the Dorothea Dix Master Planning Executive Committee, I am proud to have helped create a master plan for a premier destination park for our community, state, and nation – right here in District D!”
